Opava Summer of Fun

Every summer the city of Opava prepares a variety of activities and events in the city centre to entertain the residents and visitors of Opava. The summer season starts with an event called The City Welcomes Summer in the park behind the shopping centre Slezanka. In the course of July and August a number of events take place at Ptačí vrch (Birds’ Hill) that offer day and evening programmes for the whole family in a relaxed atmosphere. You can lounge on the grass, have a picnic, join workshops for adults or children, take dance lessons, and sample great food and drinks. In 2018 and 2019, there was also an event on Osvoboditelů Square called Dolňák s vůní dálek (The Call of Distant Lands) that featured an afternoon with the Boy Scouts offering a programme for children. In the evening the programme continued with a concert under the stars and singing by the fire. Opava Summer of Fun traditionally ends with a bike trip called Do Opavy na Fidorku, do Krnova na Kofolu (Fidorka in Opava, Kofola in Krnov) on the bike trail leading from Opava to Krnov. Other popular summer events are open air cinema on Ptačí vrch, Pony Express, or Athletic Circus.
